Whew. I just tried contributing some of my stock photos to the Wikipedia Creative Commons. What a bother. I found the process clunky, unintuitive, needlessly obtuse and lacking in anything approaching a clear explanation.
It really made me appreciate dA's submission process. Hell, it even made Elfwood's submission process look smooth as a powdered baby's ass.
My main problem is with the 'tags' or keywords (they don't call them that, they're "categories"). They have some very specific rules/guidelines for placing each file within categories so they can be searched... but wikipedia is always in flux, so there's no way to tell what categories you should place a file in - and there's no guidance at all, except what not to do.
At Wikipedia, they seem really good at explaining things you shouldn't or can't do, or things that will get your file deleted, but no one seems to have bothered to explain clearly what you SHOULD be doing.
It's also difficult to edit anything once you've submitted a file. Also, once you've submitted a file, it's a "non-revocable gift". I've never considered withdrawing ANY images from my stock account here on deviantArt (except for quality reasons), but to be forced to not have the option really makes me grit my teeth.
I may try again once my frustration has faded, but I have better things to spend my time on.
Is it just me? Anyone else tried the Commons before? I never considered myself particularly dense, am I just missing something here?

Stock Use Rules---
All the photos on this account (that are submitted under the 'resource' category) are for anyone to use, for any project, commercial or otherwise. Most are under a Creative Commons license; all I ask is that you credit me in some way if you display them. (Unless it's just as reference for a drawing or something, then no credit is needed). If it's used outside of deviantArt, please credit Suzanne Phillips.
A link to the finished product would be really cool. If you're not a member of deviantArt, my email is located below this journal.
Thanks, and enjoy! I have this account because I take A LOT stock photos all the time, for my own use. I decided to share with other people the ones I thought might be useful. You have to click "Download Image" to see the largest file size.

My art account on deviantArt is
here. I hope you give it a visit, but it is filled with photos that I don't want used for photo manips, please.
